DDL scooter parts and tuning

Fresh Parts

Dennis de Lijster, former driver in the Malossi Trophy, founded DDL from a lifetime of tinkering with scooters and mopeds. Not a brand that sells cylinders under its own name, but a specialist who knows what really matters in DDL scooter tuning.

What DDL makes

DDL is known for three things: tuned cylinders, complete engine blocks and exhausts for various setups.

Cylinders

DDL tunes existing cylinders, not own brand cylinders. The Malossi 172 is the best known, but the original Gilardoni 180cc is also regularly seen. It's about customization: porting, timing and finishing that fits your use and the rest of your block.

Complete engine blocks

If you don't want to find and coordinate everything yourself, DDL also offers ready-made plug-and-play engine blocks. They are based on Malossi racing parts and are immediately ready to ride. That saves a lot of adjustment work and uncertainty about whether everything works together.

Exhausts

DDL is an expert in making its exhausts, DDL's exhausts are all hand welded by Dennis himself. Dennis has many exhausts for every setup, such as 172180cc 52/55 stroke setups, but also with a big Toronda cylinder you have come to the right place at DDL.

If you prefer lower CCs but the ultimate power, then you have the DDL 70cc series exhausts, the street, midrace and high end. In addition, on request he can make exhausts for big bore studs.

What to pay attention to with a DDL setup

A tuned cylinder or exhaust requires a completely tuned setup. Carburetion, variator and transmission have to move, otherwise you won't get much out of it. Always change one part at a time, check your spark plug color and listen carefully to how the block runs.

Cooling and lubrication count extra with a higher cylinder capacity. Use good oil, ensure a clean air supply and gently drive in a new setup.

Maintenance

A tuned scooter requires more attention than a standard one. You want to check the spark plug, air filter, variator and belt more often. That is not a disadvantage, as long as you take it into account when you make a choice.

FAQ about DDL scooter

Is DDL suitable for daily use?

Yes, provided you choose a milder setup, adjust it properly and do not neglect maintenance. The more extreme you go, the more sensitive the whole thing becomes.

Which DDL parts should I upgrade first?

Start with maintenance and safety. After that, profit often lies in an exhaust or in the transmission adjustment. If you really want more torque, you will quickly end up with a cylinder upgrade—but together with suitable carburetion.

How often should a tuned scooter be maintained?

More often than standard. Think of spark plug, air filter, variator, belt and regularly check for leaks. Create a simple schedule that suits your use and setup and you will usually avoid problems.
